  1. Residential schools affected many people later in life most prominently in that it drove many of the people who attended them to alcoholism, drug abuse, depression and even suicide. The treatment of the First Nationa people in residential schools also damaged their culture throughout an entire generation, because when they were separated from their homes and European values were forced on them they were also separated from their traditional way of life. Residential schools also fostered resentment between the First Nations people and the church, where a healthy society would instead see indifference or acceptance.

  2. There were numerous reasons that residential schools created long term effects. Some of them included that once the children got out of school many were driven to alcohol, drugs, depression and suicide. Another effect was that many aspects of their culture was lost over the course of the many years that the children went to school. Parts of tehir culture were lost because their elders and parents were not able to teach them their traditions and culture because they were not able to be home. Whenn they were at the schools they were wiped from their culture and were expected to no longer practise their culture. This effected many people and some that went to schools are still traumatized because of the things that went on while they were there. This also increased the racism in our country as well as the First nations resentment towards the church.

  3. Residential schools did effect many first nations permanently. After school was done, they were left with memories that traumatized them and it led them to being heavy alcohlics, and being suicidal. People forgot their culture and it would affect the next generation because how long they were away from their own culture, but it also made more people more humble and stronger.

  4. residencial schools set in long term affects into many inocent children, they were constantly being raped and beaten into gods language, segragated the indians from their culture and their dignity. TBH- this is really ignorant and unfair to try and anniahlate the indian culture.

  5. the long affects were that first nations were ripped apart of ther culture and their-ways. some of them were scarred for life because they were raped, sexual abused. First nations were locked in there for so many years, that afterwards when they had gotten out, they had this unlimited freedom that they didnt know what to do with, so they decide to turn to drugs, alcholo, and even suicide, just so they could escape from this isolation.

  6. Long term effects of Residential schools include:
-Driving most of the people who attended Residential school and survived to substance and/or alcohol abuse, psychological problems (depression,PTSD...etc) which usually lead to death in someway or another
-Took away the culture from those who were placed into the residential schools.Leaving the first nations culture broken to a certain extent because the next generation or the generation that was placed into these schools lost all of there culture which was soon replaced by the European culture

Even though during this time many thought that Residential schools were good and that they would help to improve the first nations culture by placing there childern into these schools, they ended up being the complete opposite of what was expected from these schools.

  7. some long terms effects on people would be anger, sadness, and mistrust in the government. they would need counseling to get over what happen to them, they would need alcohol to numb the pain mentally. they all lost their tradition and barely could understand their language and culture when they got back home.

  8. This is Mitch. The long term effects from the residential schools would be; anger in the government, mistrust in people, mistrust in religion, turn to alcohol to numb the pain, suicidal thoughts and actions, loss of culture since they never learned it and were scared to learn their culture. They probably suffered depression as well and shame of what happened to them.
