Yesterday you read some accounts of conditions in early industrial revolution factories and today you acted out some scenes. What were some things that were wrong with the early factories? If you were in charge of improving conditions, what would be the first thing you would want to change & why?
The biggest problem they faced was the pay. They slaved day and night for sometimes less than a dollar day. I would change this by paying them the proper amount of money (Minimum wage or higher) and increase chance of raise and/or promotion. - Nate
ReplyDeleteThere was numerous things that were wrong with these factories. Firstly, the people who were working there were often forced to work against their will and were stolen from their families. They were forced to work in conditions that would not come close to meeting the standards of human rights and were not given adequate food, water, rest, or medical attention needed. They slaved away for little to no pay on unrealistic hours. If I were in charge one of the first things I would change to improve the lives of the workers would be to improve the condition and environment surrounding the workers. I would make water and food available at all times and the areas they work in would have better air conditions/heat. I would change this because in improving this it would make work a little less miserable on the children and improve their health and outlook on the work they're doing. A.E.
ReplyDeletesome things that were wrong with early factories were the workers had no rights let alone they had kids working, they had crappy pay, and long hours of work and little to no breaks. something i would change is the amount of hours they work and give them more pay and breaks because no one can work on a pennie a day its just down right cruel to think that someone can do all this work for you and you dont even treat them decently. - piper
ReplyDeleteif i was put in charge of one of these early industrial factorys i would quit because the working conditions are horrible and no adult should be able to abuse kids-henry m
ReplyDeleteProbably the first thing i would change about child labor back then would be the beating and harassment the children received seeing as many of them were whipped or chained or any other form of punishment and they couldn't do anything about it because if their parents went to talk to the person in charge they would lose the job that they definitely need to survive. Even though they only got paid around 1 cent an hour which would be terrible to live off having only what is absolutely necessary it was still needed if they wanted to continue to live.
ReplyDeletethe biggest problem the slaves faced was getting beaten or starved and they had to work day and night and they got paid $1 an hour and it wasn't enough to feed family.

the list of things wrong goes on and on like no fire exits, way under payed, over crowded, to long of day, abuse and harassment etc but first i would bump payment way up to the legal minimum wage here so they can go to a home and have a meal after their hard days work

if i were put in charge of these early industry factories I would make sure that it was a happy environment for everyone working, as a fun a good work place is a good workplace. comment 1 (ran out of time) -Landon
ReplyDeleteThe wrong things were like the conditions they were in. Especially the air condition in the underground coal mines, they won't get enough food and water, they would only get the amount for them to survive and not living. People would not get any sunshine and is not very healthy. Children that's 6 is working 14-16 hours a day which now days that's what nurses, doctors or lawyers would be working. Abusing and torturing people were very bad as well. As a little kid or anyone, the fear of getting hurt everyday would be traumatic. Health condition were very bad for people and people would die in a very early age because of the condition. My first thing to change would be the wages. People are willing to work when they are getting paid enough money for themselves to eat and to buy things. Then it would be the environment. Such as like, getting fresh air once in a while, getting more break, and so on. Amy Kim
ReplyDeletecont. In these factories there was a lot of brutality and hate. and altogether it was not a good working condition. so i would want to change that, making people comfortable with their job so they'll want to put in effort and care into their products -LANDON
ReplyDeleteWorking conditions within factories were deplorable, from horrible air conditions to the lack proper medical care it was no wonder that workers were unhappy. The lists of things that we consider by no means even remotely okay today were common place in the early revolution. People were under fed, under paid, under appreciated, under age, abused, tortured and fearful in these work environments. If I were to have the opportunity to alter these conditions i would start by ensuring that the living conditions of the workers was far better. I would provided a stable environment with enough food, water, heat and other necessities to make their lives comfortable. After this I would increase wages so that less children would be required to work for families to meet their needs. The eventual goal would be to put a minimum wage and age of workers so that children and adults alike have fairer experiences. Then I would clean out the abusive issues so that my workers felt they were entering a safe environment. There are many things that needed to be changed to create safe and stable environments for workers and their children.
ReplyDeletethere were a lot of things wrong with it actually the hours were bad so was the pay as well as the working conditions
ReplyDeleteif i where in charge of the factories i would change the hours that they work first from 15 hour a day for everyone to 6 hours for kids 9 hours for adults
